What is Truly Newsworthy?

When I switched on the computer this morning the following latest news headlines came up in bold typeface: “Video – baby rescued from toilet, Obama plays golf with comic, Man feeds raccoons, First transgender actress cast in Doctor Who”… and reading them stopped me in my tracks.

Could this be what the news teams think we want to read in the morning as we are eating breakfast before we go out to work? It made me consider the news, what we are fed and what we are not fed by the media.

The news teams, it seems, feed us what they think we want to read, not necessarily what will truly educate us. Continue reading “What is Truly Newsworthy?”

Music: Detaching Singing from Performance

I love Music and singing. For me they are as essential and as natural as breathing.

As with breathing, the quality of my music, and the quality of my relationship with Music, has been subject to constant change and evolution.

As a child I would often sing and hum quietly to myself simply as a form of gentle expression when I was feeling content. This was a perfectly natural and uninhibited thing for me to accompany any playful activity in which I was engaged.

I merely sang with my own, unaffected, innate voice. It was simply a part of who I was and I never questioned it.

True Inspiration

To ‘inspire’ comes from Latin inspirare – ‘breathe or blow into’ from in – ‘into’ + spirare ‘breathe’. The word was originally used of a divine or supernatural being, in the sense of “impart a truth or idea to someone”. (Oxford dictionary)

However, what matters in true inspiration is whether a person allows themselves to truly feel and open to what has been received, and then what they choose to make of it.

Inspired by Universal Medicine… Just Being Me

I am beginning to realise how powerful it is just being me by connecting to the quality of who I am within.  I have spent most of my 60 plus years of life living from my head and thinking I needed to constantly be available for everyone else. My way of doing this was by trying to fix things for everybody, often because I felt responsible for what others did or didn’t do. Continue reading “Inspired by Universal Medicine… Just Being Me”

Love, Quality and Integrity at Work

by Anonymous

A couple of weeks ago I received an email asking me if I was interested in applying for a job in my field of work. The next week involved a series of phone calls with the company, so they could get a feeling as to whether I was suitable for the job. For the first time ever I was not attached to getting this job, and I began to ask questions and initiate certain discussions to see if the company was suitable for me to work with.

The unraveling of this process has been very freeing; for me to feel what is most important in any job that I do. In a nutshell, I can say that this is to make my work about meeting people – that is, being with them in a loving way that is never about me, my needs, the bosses’ needs or the companies’ needs, but all about love and care for people first. Then committing to this consistently, to the best of my ability. Continue reading “Love, Quality and Integrity at Work”

Seeking Connection and True Relationships

by Dr Rachel Hall, Holistic Dentist, Kenmore, Brisbane

We live today in the most populated world in history, yet more people than ever feel lonely, detached and separated from society… and even from themselves. How can we, in the midst of all the people we meet every day, sometimes feel so alone?

We frequently live in a way where we see ourselves as separate from others, from nature and from Divinity itself. This sense of separation seems to be an essential part of being human, part of our individuality and personal identity. Yet it is our sense of separation that can cause suffering, especially when we view everything around us as ‘things’ that appear unconnected to us. I Love Thee – Swimflying, Family and Gluten-free Biscuits

by Alan Johnston, Pottsville

I have two sisters and a brother, all older. A few weeks ago the younger of my sisters and I discovered that we both ‘swimfly’ in our dreams. We were quietly sharing together after not having seen each other for ten years. It was a beautiful point of connection. Swimflying is dream-flying – using your arms and legs in easy swim strokes to stay aloft and glide. Continue reading “I Love Thee – Swimflying, Family and Gluten-free Biscuits”

Being a Good Mother

by Anne Malatt, Australia

I never thought I would be a “good” mother.

My role model for a mother was a “superwoman” – a woman who worked hard in a demanding job all day, who came home and cooked gourmet meals at night, who provided for us in every way, who did all the household chores and maintained a large and lovely garden, but who was exhausted and loveless for herself, and drank as a substitute for nurturing and celebrating herself. I did not think I could live up to this, and did not really want to! Continue reading “Being a Good Mother”

The Truth of Love – Equally for All

by Sarah Davis, Goonellabah NSW

A lovely and wise young woman recently said to me that “the love I was holding back was not actually mine to hold back – that love is for all, equally”. This was in the context of a group discussion of how we ‘hold back’ expressing love, our true essence, in life.

When the young woman said these words it was like I had a ‘high speed download’ – or what some may call a ‘moment of revelation’ – where my understanding in one moment expanded. I immediately felt how the nature of love is unity, equality – that it cannot be separated – it cannot be for one person and not the other, it is always for All – without exception. Stillness and Aloneness

by Anne Malatt, Australia

I used to think I had to be alone to be myself.

When I was with others, I was always trying to fit in with them, calibrating myself to them, measuring myself to make sure they (and I) were comfortable.

I was an expert at this, but it could get confusing.  I was such a chameleon that I could not be with more than one of my friends at a time, for I was a completely different person with each one of them! Continue reading “Stillness and Aloneness”
