Self Care – ‘Walking the Talk’

The concept of self-care is still riddled with the attitude of it being self-indulgent and selfish. We often champion the idea that putting others before ourselves is something to aspire to, and perhaps there is nowhere that this is more pronounced than with mothers, who are applauded and celebrated when ‘putting the children first’.

The thing is that most of us know that we learn so much more by example rather than by being told – so the natural extrapolation of this is that if we look down on the activity of self-care, we are creating a framework that says: Continue reading “Self Care – ‘Walking the Talk’”

Making Space

Recently I was moving house and the first thing I needed to do was get rid of stuff I didn’t use anymore – no startling revelations here! I had accumulated a lot of things that I ‘paid good money for’ that I was reluctant to get rid of because I knew how much they cost me and I wasn’t going to get back anything like what I paid for them, so they just cluttered up my living space. As this was a process, it was difficult to be aware of how this gradual encroachment was affecting me, however it became clear soon enough. Continue reading “Making Space”

Working Full Time Again and Relishing It

I have recently returned to full-time nursing work and I am loving it. It’s been some time since I have worked full-time, and really, I never thought I would do it… ever again.

About 3 years into my nursing career I was finding it all a bit overwhelming so I began to cut my hours down. Over the years this drizzled down to only a few shifts a fortnight and even then I still thought that it was too much. Continue reading “Working Full Time Again and Relishing It”

The Illusion of Rebellion and Adventure

It was a hot summer’s evening when I settled down for another night alone on the beach. Alongside me were the few possessions I owned. I had no pillow so I would use a book. The blanket I used to cover me had seriously outlived its shelf life; having been used all summer without a wash, it was smelly, manky and uncomfortable and no matter how hard I shook it, I could not seem to get all the sand out that had matted its way in. Continue reading “The Illusion of Rebellion and Adventure”

Perfectly Imperfect

 by Joel L, Australia

I was reading the blog by Otto Bathurst (I’m just an Ordinary Man) and was blown away by the recognition that at some level I still want the world to see how great the esoteric is and how much better life can be with it. This desire for others ‘to get it’ leads to painting a sometimes overly ‘perfect picture’ of the esoteric.

Truth is, the esoteric is perfect – it’s just everything else that can suck. Continue reading “Perfectly Imperfect”

My job and me: getting honest and making changes

by R.B, NSW

I loved my job… or I thought I did. I had done the same job for 14 months, working five days a week in a very physically demanding position, as a waitress in a busy cafe where I was literally running most of the time.

I thought I loved it because it was exciting and it was social.

But what I thought was excitement was actually just my nervous system being stressed out because of the demands of work. I noticed that my nervous system was stressed out because I would wake often at night needing to pee, find it hard to relax, and always needed to do things, even on my days off or on my breaks, which are all signs of an over-active nervous system. It was as if my body was in constant ‘fight or flight’ mode. After taking some time off work and creating a slower pace to live in, I can really feel the difference between how I am now and how I was then. Exposing corruption – the power of conversation!

by Anna Karam, Concerned human being! Goonellabah, Australia

How important is it for us as a humanity to speak about and discuss the extent of corruption? There is so much that is wrong in the world today, and it has been this way for centuries. We have witnessed and continue to witness crimes such as murder, rape, human trafficking, domestic violence, theft, abuse and/or bullying, and yet it seems nothing we have done thus far has brought about any real change or stop to this.

Aside from these most heinous crimes we also have those which are not so obvious to the human eye – I speak here of the crime and corruption that is so deeply entrenched within society that it often goes unnoticed, unspoken, or worse, ignored, even though its effects are still far reaching and devastating to us all, with only a few calling it for what it is. This hidden corruption has greed, power and control at its core, and can be found in our political circles, law enforcement and media groups. Truly and honestly I ask, how can this be? Continue reading “Exposing corruption – the power of conversation!”

Taking Responsibility by Connecting to my Body

I too was caught up in the game of blaming someone or something else for things that were happening to me in life, prior to my involvement with Universal Medicine. While I occasionally considered that I might be responsible, it was still easier to look outside of me, and it also gave me the permission to become identified with ‘doing it hard’ and being recognised for the difficult, awful or challenging things I was putting up with (I had pretty much mastered being a martyr in many areas of my life – including mothering…). The Gift of Responsibility

by Joseph Barker, Australia

3 years ago a friend gave me a CD of a presentation given by Serge Benhayon. In this presentation Serge asked, is it possible that the energy we choose in every moment of our lives, creates life as we know it to be?

This simple question gave me an opportunity to be honest about the energy I was living in every day. Continue reading “The Gift of Responsibility”
